Powdery Mildew

Powdery mildew control schedule:

Powdery mildew is an advanced organism that has been a plague to the agriculture community for many of years. We are battling Mother Nature. PM is challenging to eradicate and impossible if you do not first take care of your environment. It is important to learn how powdery Mildew spreads and the environmental conditions that encourage its growth to help prevent re-infestation. Dr. DoRight’s has the unique ability to penetrate and disrupt a mildew spore rendering it unable to reproduce or even survive. Following the DoRight’s eradication schedule is a valuable management strategy in the fight against powdery mildew.

Here are a few tips to help effectively reduce or eliminate powdery mildew:

Environmental Requirements: First line of defense is maintaining an environment that is inhospitable for PM to grow.

  • Use a Hepa filter on air intakes. Keep Humidity in Room below 60%. Use a De-humidifier if necessary. Dx tip: Air conditioners running at night cause a spike in humidity.

  • Avoid pockets of stagnate air. Have good air circulation.

  • Keep environment clean Remove dry dead leaves from plant and the top of soil. Try to avoid using building material that can hold moisture and help create molds and mildews. Use metal or plastic whenever possible or buy treated wood.

  • DX tip: For damp environments such as a basement or along the coast, PM spores will almost always be re-introduced into the environment and will need extra attention.

Understanding Powdery Mildew

Once Powdery Mildew is visible on the leaf surface, it is already in its second stage of life and has been present for a few weeks. Dx Tip: A single spore can cause the cycle to start again, be aware of your clothing and your dog’s hair, dreads etc. Once PM is visible, it is has been present for at least 7-10 days and has moved into spore production. Dr. DoRight’s will help remove Powdery Mildew spores on the leaf surface or in the room; it will NOT affect spores that are re-introduced to the room, after the application.

How to manage infected mothers and clones: To minimize PM from an environment, cuttings need to be taken from a clean mother and keep clean for a generation.

To create a generation of clean clones from an infected mother: Thoroughly drench or Dip Mother with 2-3 oz/ gal, every other day for a week or two. Inspect new growth for signs of PM. Once you have a clean host, it is ready to take cutting, dip the cuttings in solution of Dr. DoRight’s Pest Control and put them in the cloner. Dip rooted clone, again, before putting into larger container. When cloning, take a cut, dip it into the solution for 10 -15 seconds. Then dry the end with a paper towel and make the actual cut at a 45-degree angle and apply your preferred rooting solution. Dx tip: if using rock-wool cubes in a propagation tray with a dome, remove the cubes from the tray and dip them into the solution. Try not to leave a large amount of the product standing in the tray. Consistently treat with light doses (2 oz per gal) in the early stages of the life-cycle. If possible, turn one of the new, clean cuttings into your new Mom. Cleaning an existing infected mom requires due diligence and consistent applications.

Application and Mixing tips:

DO NOT APPLY IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT OR INTENSE LIGHT. ALLOW 1 – 2 HOURS for product to evaporate. Dx tip: A small lamp with a household incandescent bulb is OK to use when applying. Aim the light so it is not directly pointed at the plants and a few feet away. Liberally Applying Dr. DoRight’s will eliminate all existing spores on the surface of leaves and existing damage, it will not eliminate spores that are re-introduced into the room. Pay close attention to any host with visible mildew and areas in close proximity;

COMPLETELY SATURATE areas with visible mildew. Aim your spray directly at the mildew. Only apply at Night or when the lights are off. Allow at least 1 hour before sunrise or the lights coming on, to allow the product to work and evaporate.

Follow the Dilution Instructions and shake thoroughly. For the BEST RESULTS use a cold fogger As a foliar spray, use a fine mist and maintain pressure in the vessel.
